These printable free printable animal tracks flashcards will be a great reference when searching for animal prints on the trail! The best place to find animal tracks are on soft muddy areas or shortly after a fresh rain! This is an especially fun activity for kids because not only are they on a great treasure hunt for animal footprints but they are also outdoors in nature!

Free Printable Animal Tracks Explorer ID Cards

We are a HUGE outdoorsy nature loving and geocaching family so  searching for animals, their tracks, and even their scat is pretty normal for my kids! You can see that with our collection of skulls and bones here! (One of our favorite books to take on a nature hike is Tracks, Scat, and Signs!) But I realize some kids need a little extra prompting to get outdoors or help properly identify animal tracks that they come across on a nature hike.

There are several things that you can do when you find animal footprints! You can take a picture of them. Measure them and record them in a journal. Or even try your hand at making a plaster cast of them for kids to show off later! See how Surviving a Teacher’s Salary took this animal footprints idea and turned it into beautiful artwork!

How to Make Your Printable Animal Flashcards Last Longer:

I HIGHLY recommend laminating these free printable cards with a simple at home laminator so that it will be water resistant and last longer outdoors. You can even use a hole punch and thread them onto a notebook ring. Stash them in a field bag along with any nature items or clues you come across! If you prefer a more digital version for identifying animal tracks consider the MyNature Animal Tracks app.

I love these so much!! Thank You!!!!!!

Wondering if there’s any way you could make additional tracks? I’m making both my kids a Nature Bag for our Cottage Summer and there’s a lot of Moose, Beavers and Rabbits in our neighbourhood. We see these tracks quite often as well! (I’m in Northern Ontario)

I absolutely adore this! I thought you might want to know though, the word ‘bite’ in the fun facts for beat is misspelled “bit”.
