I know how important it is to keep kids occupied while traveling and while I LOVE these felt play sets I know many families traveling are on a tight budget! You’ll be relieved to know that this simple camping travel play set that I created requires NO SEWING abilities! NONE – in fact there’s NO SEWING even involved – just your handy hot glue gun!
You can modify the scenery as desired for both boys and girls. These small woodland forest animals are perfect for using with this felt play set. Just grab a pile of felt to get started!

I began by choosing some orange and yellow colored felt for our campfire flames. Nothing fancy here and there’s no template – I just used a Sharpie marker to draw a flame like you see above. This will be glued on the inside so you won’t even be able to see the marker! Just cut two pieces of the same shape out of orange felt.

Then I laid a piece of yellow felt over my orange “flames” and drew a flame type shape that was smaller than the orange flame. The great thing about it is that there is no need for perfection here – all flames are unique and different so it’s not difficult to reproduce!

Cut out your yellow flame and position it on top of the orange flame. You simply want to make sure that the yellow color is inside of the orange felt! If it’s not just trim trim trim!

Here you can see 3 very different flames that I created. Glue the yellow flame onto the orange flame, and then glue around the inside edges of the orange flame leaving a small section open to stuff some cotton batting inside. Once your cotton is inside simply glue the rest of the flame together!

The “wood” logs are even easier to create out of felt! Simple roll a piece of brown felt around your finger and glue the ends together as I did above.

You can make this look nicer if you’ve got a knack for sewing but I simply hot glued the end of the log together by just folding up the felt. Once one side was glued together I stuffed some cotton batting inside the log and then glued the other side together.
Since I only had a few pieces of brown scrap felt my logs are rather short. You can also grab a brown Sharpie marker and draw a few lines in your log to make it look more realistic!

Now for the easy final touches! I placed a piece of green felt on the table then made a blue felt river and cut out small greenish brown “stones” and glued them on the felt to make a path. Now your woodland forest animals can play on the felt set or you can create a little fairy house with fence to find down the stone path!

Felt is the best, isn’t it? It would be fun to make even more scenes for littles to explore! Thanks for sharing!
